Desert Jet is proud to sponsor the first Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math education field trip for elementary and middle school students from the Coachella Valley to Discovery Cube Orange County in Santa Ana, California. The field trip to the science museum is part of Desert Jet’s ongoing commitment to educating and inspiring the next generation of students while elevating the aviation experience for the community.
Through Desert Jet’s partnership with the Discovery Cube Orange County and the Coachella Valley Unified School District, 100 students from the Las Palmitas, Saul Martinez, and Toro Canyon Elementary and Middle Schools will travel to the science museum on August 25th, 2022, and spend the day with their teachers engaged in fun, hands-on science-based exhibits and activities designed around the theme of Travel Through Space with a focus on aviation.
Desert Jet CEO Jared Fox, commented: “We all know the value of STEM education and the need for science-based curriculum in our school systems to help engage, inspire, and stimulate the next generation of forward-thinkers.The Discovery Cube is a wonderful organization that addresses the lack of STEM education in schools by providing a unique and fun, hands-on learning experience for many kids. Desert Jet is very proud to be partnering with Discovery Cube to help bring some of this amazingly valuable education to kids and young adults of the Coachella Valley."
Students will explore the Solar System Encounter and physics lab to experience interactive science activities related to flight, such as the Paper Airplane and Straw Rocket exhibits. The Discovery Cube education team will also extend the program to develop a science curriculum for Coachella Valley teachers to continue STEM education in the classrooms.
Discovery Cube OC Vice President, Development Debbie Loughran,“Discovery Cube is grateful for this special partnership with Desert Jet and its commitment to hands-on STEM education,” said Discovery Cube OC Vice President, Development Debbie Loughran. “We share their vision to ignite the passion of 'Discovery' in the hearts and minds of the next generation of students. STEM education focusing on aviation can take students to new heights where they will soar!”
“Coachella Valley Unified is grateful for our partnership with Desert Jet and the Discovery Cube,” said Coachella Valley USD CTE District Coordinator Marie Perotti. “Field trips are an essential part of student learning, helping them make academic connections to what they are learning in the classroom to the world, as well as inspire their curiosity! Many of our students have never traveled outside of our district boundaries. Field trip opportunities allow students to see a bigger picture! Community relationships are highly valued and necessary for schools to thrive.”
Many elementary students will transition to Desert Mirage High School, giving them a head start in the school's aviation program and connection to Desert Jet's shadowing and internship programs for career development opportunities in business aviation.
“We thank our partner Desert Jet for helping us offer Coachella Valley USD students additional college and career opportunities that expand their academic horizon and promote play,” stated Superintendent Dr. Luis Valentino. “We hope we can further expand our aviation pathway in the very near future to include many more high school students in the Coachella Valley.”
