Atlantic Airways announces the forthcoming opening of its new Simulator Center for Airbus A320 and Leonardo AW139 helicopters, scheduled for early 2025. The center, which will be close to the airport and the recently renovated Vagar Hotel, will mark a major step forward in the development of aviation training in the region, offering advanced training opportunities to pilots and aviation professionals. The center will be equipped with the latest simulation technologies, allowing pilots to train in realistic conditions and hone their skills on state-of-the-art aircraft. The A320 and AW139 simulators are designed to meet the highest industry standards, guaranteeing an immersive and effective learning experience.

Jóhanna á Bergi, CEO of Atlantic Airways, commented: “We are delighted to unveil this ambitious project, which will propel the Faroe Islands to the status of a must-see destination for aviation training. Our ambition is to equip future pilots and aviation professionals with the skills and confidence to excel in their careers.”

The simulation center will not only be an invaluable asset for local pilots; it also has the potential to attract international candidates keen to benefit from high-quality training. The state-of-the-art facility will include a revolutionary AW139 simulator designed for all three current versions of the helicopter, specially adapted for Search and Rescue and Helicopter Emergency Medical Services training. With a Level D flight simulator and a separate physical winch trainer that replicates actual winch operations, trainees can practice complex rescue scenarios in a safe, controlled environment.

What's more, the integration of Mixed Virtual Reality technology allows rescue teams to experience the same visual and operational scenarios as pilots in real time. This approach makes training all the more immersive and realistic. By combining state-of-the-art theoretical and practical training programs, the center demonstrates a strong commitment to excellence in the aviation sector. With almost twenty years' experience in helicopter crew training, and an established reputation in search and rescue operations, the Simulation Center is ideally positioned to raise aviation safety standards and train highly qualified professionals, capable of responding effectively to the demands of real-life emergencies.
