MTU Maintenance is targeting significant growth in North America. As announced by CFM International and GE Aerospace, MTU will be adding CFM LEAP and GEnx maintenance, repair and overhaul services to its portfolio in United States. These agreements will see MTU’s site in Fort Worth, Texas, develop from an on-site service center to full disassembly, assembly and test facility. It also expands the depth and scope of MTU’s engine MRO solutions worldwide.

Michael Schreyögg, Chief Program Officer, MTU Aero Engines commented: “The agreements signed today represent potential for multi-billion-dollar MRO volume for MTU over both programs’ lifetime. We are heavily investing in the ramp-up of this site and are strongly committed to providing expertise and capacity to the North American market long-term. Our facility will become the go-to location for customers in the region when it comes to state-of-the-art engine maintenance for narrowbody and widebody engines.”

“We have a clear business strategy for regional collaboration, are committed to job creation and prepared for growth,” adds Gernot Sell, who has been managing director of the Texas facility since February 2025. In spring of 2023, MTU Maintenance moved to a 43,000 square meter facility, which includes an engine test facility with up to 100,000 lbs. of thrust. It has since been expanding its services and quick turn portfolio and preparing for further development. This includes the introduction of LEAP-1A/1B services as a Premier MRO service provider.

CFM LEAP Premier MRO provider

“We are delighted to be named one of only six exclusive Premier MRO service providers for LEAP engines in the world,” says Schreyögg. “The engine program is one of the largest engine programs globally and demand for capacity and expert support is high.”

This agreement and classification as Premier MRO enables MTU to offer full performance restoration and extensive repair capabilities for CFM LEAP engines. It expands on MTU’s existing services for this engine type, including on-site services like reverse bleed system upgrades, and it increases the workscope depth MTU is able to provide customers.

LEAP-1A engines power the Airbus A320neo family, and the LEAP-1B engines power the Boeing 737 MAX family. MTU Maintenance’s facility in Fort Worth is working on meeting all requirements for LEAP engine inductions in the coming years and will be supported by MTU’s vast network and capabilities during ramp up.

Expansion includes full overhaul services for GEnx engine program

MTU will also be introducing full overhaul capability for GEnx engines, expanding its contribution to the engine programs aftermarket network significantly. “We are excited to be entering into this program in due course,” says Sell. “This agreement is another step towards increasing our footprint in North America, enhancing our competitiveness and enabling us to provide a wide range of expert services to customers in the region and beyond.”

The new long-term GE Aerospace Branded Services Agreement (GBSA) enables MTU Maintenance Dallas to serve as an authorized service provider for GEnx engines with highest level of training and support, as well as greater access to proprietary overhaul and repair technology. It expands MTU’s capabilities to full overhaul and enables the company to increase its aftermarket activities for this promising, future-oriented program in the long-term.

MTU is a risk- and revenue-sharing partner in the GEnx program with a share of 6.7 percent. The company is responsible for design, manufacturing, and assembling the turbine center frame. It currently carries out MRO services for the turbine center frame at its facility in Hannover, Germany.
