Since officially entering into service in March, MTU Maintenance Zhuhai Jinwan has now successfully redelivered its first PW1100G-JM engine to customer China Southern Airlines. The site is a branch of MTU Maintenance Zhuhai, a joint venture between MTU Aero Engines and China Southern Airlines.

Li Xin, General Manager of China Southern Technics and Chairman of MTU Maintenance Zhuhai, commented: "This achievement signifies that China Southern now possesses enhanced capabilities in engine MRO, serving not only its own needs but also those of global customers. The Jinwan shop has hit the ground running. Not only is it fully operational, it has also been ramping up as planned and is supporting the GTF engine MRO network with reliable capacity from day one,” says Gert Wagner, CEO and President of MTU Maintenance Zhuhai. This year alone, Jinwan plans to redeliver over 50 engines to customers, and once completely ramped up is expected to have a yearly capacity of 260 engine shop visits. “This is an excellent starting point from which to seize all growth opportunities in the strong Asian aviation market. My thanks go out to all partners, customers and employees for their contribution to this first successful milestone.”

Jinwan branch operates under MTU Maintenance Zhuhai’s management and authorizations. Combined, both sites it aims to be the largest maintenance repair and overhaul facility in the world, with a capacity of over 700 shop visits specifically for the growing narrow body engine market.

MTU Maintenance Zhuhai services CFM56 and LEAP engines from CFM International, as well as International Aero Engines AG V2500 engines and Pratt & Whitney’s PW1100G-JM engines. The company opened its own dedicated training center capable of training 100 mechanics per year in 2023.
