Before the pandemic and obviously after, industry professionals were discussing the problem of lack of pilots. And concretely, where do we stand in terms of numbers? It is obvious, that the number of pilots the industry needs depends on the level of air traffic recovery. If the demand for domestic and international travel exceeds 2019 level, there will be a shortage of 34,000 commercial pilots (or roughly 10% of the total workforce) by 2025. If the economy rebounds even faster, this shortage might reach 50,000.

Cambodia is "lacking 90%" of the human resources required to support a growing civil aviation sector. There are 5 locally-registered airlines operating, according to the retired top officer of SSCA for technical services and operations. To support the Kingdom's aviation industry, Cambodia lacks the necessary facilities and expertise in aviation training. At the moment, most aircraft technical trainings are carried out outside of Cambodia, which results in expensive travel and logistical expenses.

Training pilots of the future

Cambodia aviation industry is entering a new era. In the same time, the world is facing serious shortage of human resources in the aviation industry. Novation Academy is the first Approved Training Organization to offer commercial pilot and private pilot training, as well as aviation english course in Phnom Penh, Cambodia. The academy was founded by Kirill Bratchenko, CEO, an IT expert and aviation enthusiast who has been in Cambodia for 15 years and Eugene Zakharankau, Chief Flight Instructor, who has over 8,000 hours of flight experience.
