Safran has opened a new 10,000m² facility in Querétaro, Mexico dedicated to the repair of CFM56 engine components.

The centre will operate as Snecma America Engine Service and becomes Safran’s tenth Mexican facility.

The firm said the facility will provide repairs for engine parts which were previously replaced while helping it maintain competitiveness in the component repair segment.

Paris-headquartered Safran also confirmed it plans to use Mexico as the location for a third composites plant alongside material specialist Albany, citing demand for the forthcoming LEAP engine and the rise in 737 MAX production.

The plant will start producing 3D composite fan blades from Q4 2017 with a targeted production rate of more than 20,000 blades annually by 2021.
