TAG Global Training was delighted to participate at this year’s ADS Group’s Futures Day which took place on 20thJuly as part of the Farnborough International Airshow 2018. The ADS Group’s Futures Day is designed to stimulate and encourage young people between the ages of 11-21 into a career in the dynamic sectors of Aviation and Defence.
Debbie Elliott, Training Manager, TAG Global Training, was invited to be a guest speaker at the Women In Aviation International (WIA) UK networking morning. Commenting, Debbie said, “The ‘See Her, Be Her’ initiative brought together some of the most diverse roles held by women in aviation to encourage young girls to consider a career within Aviation. Hearing so many unique and inspiring stories really instils the belief that there is no career which is off limits and champions the women who have paved the way for women in the future.”
Keynote speaker and Master of Ceremonies, Dr Shini Somara, Broadcast journalist in science, technology, innovation and an advocate of STEM education, chaperoned questions from a lively audience of local school children aged between 11-14 and was joined by other guest speakers including Captain Catherine Burton, Commercial Pilot and Diversity Champion and who was the most senior female Captain for British Airways when she retired, Jane Middleton, Chairman of Airlines UK and a Trustee and Honorary Treasurer of the Royal Aeronautical Society and Tess Naran, First Officer from Titan Airways, who as an aspiring astronaut was selectedfrom over 3,500 applicants to reach the top six finalists as part of BBC2’s programme Astronauts: do you havewhat it takes?
The ‘See Her, Be Her’ event, as part of the Farnborough International Airshow 2018, coincides with the centenary year of the RAF and women’s suffrage and formed part of the launch platform for a new Women’s Charter to support women’s progression within aviation.
“We believe wholeheartedly in celebrating female pioneers and role models in the industry” added Alison Chambers, Vice President, WAI UK. “Women continue to be in the minority when it comes to careers in aviation and educating young girls about the opportunities available to them and what they can achieve within the sector is something we will never tire of.”
