Bell Helicopter is to axe up to 60 jobs at its manufacturing facility in Mirabel in Canada. The latest cuts are in addition to the 200 layoffs that were announced by the company in February.

This latest round of cuts will mean that just under a thousand people will now be based at the plant, down from almost 2,000 employees just five years ago.

Lucie Tessier, head of communications at Bell told local news sources that the additional redundancies were due to a recovery in the helicopter manufacturing and sales market not being “as fast as expected”. The redundancies are expected to come into force next month.

Last year, approximately 300 workers lost their jobs at the plant as part of a restructuring that affected nearly 1,100 employees of Bell’s parent company, Textron. These departures added to 150 announced in June 2014.

Models manufactured at the Bell Facility in Canada include the Bell 206BIII JetRanger and the Bell 206LIV LongRanger.
