Dassault Aviation has joined the CleanSky program sponsored by the European Commission, in order to aid the improvement of the environmental impact of future generations of aircraft.

Dassault stands as one of the pioneers of green aviation, and spends a large portion of its R&D budgets on reducing fuel consumption and improving its impact on the environment.

Officials from the carrier said: “We are continuing with our efforts to reduce the specific fuel consumption of our aircraft by taking part in the European Alpha-BIRD alternative fuels program and the CELINA fuel cells program.”

Representing business aviation, Dassault is playing a role in the “Smart Fixed Wing Aircraft (SFWA)” technology platform, preparing wings with extended laminar flow and load control and silent after-body architectures.

“In CleanSky, our company is also jointly responsible for the “eco-design” platform, to make aircraft manufacturing, maintenance and decommissioning more ecological: less use of resources and of raw materials, elimination of waste gases and liquids,” said the carrier.

Dassault is also involved in CORAC, a programme to research activities considered to be centres of French excellence, including: a composite wing demonstrator, modular avionics as applied to business aircraft, the cockpit of tomorrow, the increasingly electric aircraft, and eliminating sources of noise in airframes.
