Dassault Aviation’s FalconEye combined-vision system was named this morning by the National Aeronautic Association (NAA) as one of four nominees for the 2017 Collier Trophy. It will compete for the prestigious award, which is bestowed annually “for the greatest achievement in aeronautics or astronautics in America,” alongside the Blue Origin New Shepard reusable rocket, Boeing 737 Max and the U.S. Air Force 212th Rescue/249th Airlift Squadrons.

Certified by the FAA and EASA for the Falcon 2000S/LXS in October, FalconEye is a head-up display (HUD) system that combines synthetic, database-driven terrain mapping and thermal and low-light camera images into a single view. Similar approvals for the Falcon 8X are pending.

If selected for the award, Dassault’s FalconEye would join previous business aviation winners, including the Cessna Citation X, Gulfstream GV and G650 and Eclipse 500. Last year, the HondaJet HA-420 was nominated for the trophy, but did not win. This year’s Collier Trophy recipient will be announced on March 14 in Arlington, Virginia, at an NAA-sponsored dinner.
