In the frame of the acceleration of the fight against climate change, the European Union launched, in June 2021, the “Alliance for Zero Emission Aviation” (AZEA), an initiative calling on the air transport sector to act jointly in order to prepare the entry into service of the aircraft of tomorrow and reach carbon neutrality by 2050.
As a pioneer in decarbonized aviation, AURA AERO, designer and manufacturer of ERA – Electric Regional Aircraft, the very first European 19-seater regional transport aircraft with hybrid-electric propulsion – is very honored to have been selected by the European Union to serve on the steering committee of AZEA, together with Airbus, global leader for commercial aviation.
AURA AERO is aware of the role it now plays within this new alliance, driven by the European Commission’s Directorate General for the Defense and Space industry led by Thierry Breton, in which it will represent new low carbon regional aviation.
AZEA held its first general assembly on 14 November in Brussels, gathering the different players in the aviation sector such as airports, engine manufacturers, aircraft manufacturers and representatives of the energy sector. The discussions highlighted the urgency to define what will be the common roadmap for transforming and decarbonizing air transport in the coming years.
This new alliance is a chance not only for Europe but also for its member states, as it gives all its players a real opportunity to work collectively in order to identify the risks and priority choices that will need to be operated to meet the challenge set by the EU, as well as reflect on the means to be implemented.
On this occasion, Jérémy Caussade, co-founder and President of AURA AERO, said: “We are honored to represent, together with Airbus, the European aircraft manufacturers within AZEA, a new mission that reinforces our commitment towards decarbonization. A real chance to choose together the priorities facing the urgency. We are totally conscious of the work that lies ahead of us to propose solutions that take into account all the parameters of regional aviation and the challenges of decarbonization it has to face, and we will now work efficiently towards this within the European Commission.”
