Radioelectronic Technologies Concern (KRET, part of Rostec State Corporation) is developing new radar and new electro-optical target acquisition system for Yak-130; the systems should allow the jet to attack targets from outside the range of enemy air defense systems, RIA Novosti reports with reference to Adviser to the First Deputy CEO of KRET (the Russia’s largest holding company in the area of radio-electronics) Vladimir Mikheev.

“Despite its relatively small size, upgraded Yak-130 aircraft will be able to carry out missions under a variety of scenarios suitable for strike-fighters and fourth-generation fighters. At that this jet has an edge in terms of economics and ease of operation. New radar and new electro-optical target acquisition system should allow the jet to attack ground and air targets from outside the range of enemy air defense systems,” Mikheev said.

KRET is taking part in development of the new light strike-fighter derived from Yak-130. Major areas of KRET’s activities in the network of this project is development of the new radar and new electro-optical target acquisition system.

“The new radar will be managed by the CPU; together with the new electro-optical target acquisition system it will allow using high-precision missiles, including anti-tank guided missiles Vikhr-M, guided missiles R-73E, Kh-29L, Kh-25MS (ML) as well as medium-range weapons,” KRET’s press-service added.

According to Mikheev “this fact makes Yak-130 closer to Su-25Sm strike-fighter in terms of its capabilities”.
