Specialists of VR-Technologies, the innovation design office of Russian Helicopters (part of Rostec State Corporation) plans to build a prototype for the first electric tiltrotor aircraft in Russia with a takeoff weight of up 1.5 tons.

The VRT30 unmanned tiltrotor aircraft which will be the basis for developing the 1.5-tonn machine was presented at the XIX World Festival of Youth and Students in Sochi. Electric aircraft are environmentally safe, and this is one of their main advantages due to a low level of noise and the absence of noxious substances emission.

"We are currently developing a new flying laboratory for a tiltrotor aircraft; its onboard cable network will have high-temperature superconductivity technologies, which will improve properties of the prototype such as weight, dimensions and handling qualities ," emphasized General Director of Russian Helicopters Holding Company Andrey Boginsky.

The advantage of aircraft designed on the basis of a tiltrotor is that a runway is not required for their operation. In addition, a tiltrotor aircraft is able to maintain a higher speed and perform tasks in hover mode as well, owing to a tilt rotor mechanism.

As part of the XIX World Festival of Youth and Students (WFYS) which is to be held from October 14 through October 22 in Sochi, Russian Helicopters is giving a class titled "Aviation of the Future" in cooperation with PJSC UAC, UEC, Moscow Aviation Institute (MAI) and  Moscow Institute of Physics and Technology (MIPT / Moscow Phystech).

Russian Helicopters, (part of State Corporation Rostec), is one of the global leaders in helicopter production and the only helicopter design and production powerhouse in Russia. Russian Helicopters was founded in 2007 and is headquartered in Moscow. The company comprises five helicopter production facilities, two design bureaus, a spare parts production and repair facility, as well as an aftersale service branch responsible for maintenance and repair in Russia and all over the world. Among Russian Helicopters customers - Russian ministries and state authorities (Ministry of Defence, Ministry of Internal Affairs, Emergency Control Ministry), operators (Gazpromavia, UTair), major Russian and foreign corporations. In 2016 Russian Helicopters IFRS revenues reached RUB 214.3 billion. Deliveries reached 189 helicopters.
