Another CAAC officer was taken away for investigation by the Communist Party's discipline inspection department, yicai.com reported on Saturday.

Wei Hong, director of the International Air Transport Division of the Transport Department, CAAC, was taken away Friday by the Communist Party's discipline inspection department for anti-corruption.

Officials have intensified efforts to root out corruption since President Xi Jinping came to power. Since the Communist Party's discipline inspection department entered the aviation regulator in July, several directors have been taken away, and most of them are from the Transport Department.

It is still not clear why Wei was taken away.

Before Wei, Su Hong, director of the Domestic Air Transport Division of the Transport Department, and Liu Dehua, assistant director of CAAC were taken away and put under investigation.

The launch of new routes and new airlines has to be approved by the Transport Department in China. The Transport Department has the right to determine which airline can get the very limited slots in China's fast growing civil aviation sector.
