The targeted positioning and strengthening of RUAG Aviation within the Australian and Asia-Pacific aviation markets continues with the appointment of John Teager as Managing Director of RUAGAustralia, effective 1 January 2016. Teager, a decorated RAF and RAAF officer and seasoned aviation industry professional, joined RUAG Australia in 2013 as Vice President Sales & Marketing. He succeeds Thomas Gehring, who is joining the RUAG Group in Bern, Switzerland.

RUAG Aviation has named John Teager to the position of Managing Director of RUAG Australia, effective 1 January 2016. Teager currently holds the office of Vice President Sales & Marketing atRUAG Australia. He has been transitioning into his new position and is now set to assume full responsibilities for RUAG’s Australian operations.

John Teager is recognised within the industry and the RUAG organisation. Joining RUAG Australia in May 2013 as Vice President Sales & Marketing, his scope included developing market opportunities in Australia. “John Teager has contributed considerably towards securing new, long- term business relationships. He also proved a key leader in the successful positioning of RUAG within the Australian market following the organisation’s acquisition of Rosebank Engineering in December 2012,” explains Stephan Jezler, Senior Vice President Aviation International, RUAG Aviation.

“The appointment of John Teager as Managing Director of RUAG Australia firmly underscores RUAG’s strategy of internationalization,” confirms Urs Breitmeier, CEO RUAG Group. “It is important that we strengthen our presence in the key growth markets in the USA and the Asia- Pacific region, establishing our own bases of operation in support of our international clientele. We are able to leverage our expert leadership and local base of operations together with our knowledge and experience in both civil and military markets to best serve the market. The target of generating a full quarter of our Group sales outside of Europe by 2018 will be resolutely pursued. Consequently, we continue expanding our international presence,” Breitmeier explains further.

John Teager came to RUAG Australia from the employ of the South Australian government where he held the position of General Manager Defence and Industry Development at Defence SA from 2009 to 2013.

Prior to 2009, John Teager completed a distinguished, 32-year military career, initially serving with the Royal Air Force (1977-1997) and then with the Royal Australian Air Force (1997-2009). John Teager accumulated more than 3,000 flying hours, principally on the F-4 Phantom, and is the recipient of several Active Service Medals from both the RAF and the RAAF. He served as Commander Aerospace Operational Support Group, one of the RAAF’s six Force Element Groups, during his final appointment in the RAAF. John Teager is currently serving as a Reservist in the RAAFReserve.

John Teager maintains professional standings as a qualified Member of the Australian Institute of Company Directors, the Chartered Management Institute and the Royal Aeronautical Society. Teager holds a Masters degree in Business Administration (MBA). In 2005, John Teager was recognised as a Member of the Order of Australia for his achievements and service in the fields of surveillance and electronic warfare. He is married and has two adult children.
