One of the biggest issues you might face when traveling as a senior is that you might be prone to security risks. Some people would easily target you because they know you are defenseless. In case they decide to rob you, there is no way for you to fight back. This is why you have to be careful when traveling alone at your age.
Don’t bring a lot of things with you. Leave most of them behind. As long as you have a few clothes, your meds and healthy food on your bag, you are good to go. Avoid bringing a lot of cash, jewelry and other items that could be easily stolen.
Find a secure hotel so you won’t run the risk of being robbed by a stranger. There should be tight security before one can enter the hotel premises. Even if you spend more for a hotel with better security, it is fine.
Choose the places to visit. If possible, hire a tour guide so you won’t get lost. This person might also help call medical assistance whenever necessary. If you are in group tours, find a buddy who will be with you throughout the trip.
Most of all, keep your phone close to you at all times. It should contain the contact information of your friends and family members. If anything wrong happens, you can just give them a call.
