A severe cold vortex swept Northeast China from the morning of Dec. 1, forcing 6 airports in this area shut down temporarily due to moderate to heavy snow.

Mudanjiang Airport (MDG) was temporarily shut down from 8:37 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. on Dec. 2 for runway snow cover.

Changbaishan Airport (NBS) was forced to close from 7:55 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. due to runway icing today.

Runway snow also occurred at Qiqihar Sanjiazi Airport (NDG), Daqing Saertu Airport (DQA), Tonghua Sanyuanpu Airport (TNH) and Yanji Chaoyangchuan International Airport (YNJ), forcing them to be unserviceable from early morning to afternoon respectively.

As of 11:20 a.m., Harbin Taiping International Airport (HRB) has witnessed 65 takeoffs and landings after effective snow removal and deicing work day and night. Harbin city, the capital of Heilongjiang Province in Northeast China, is forcasted with an average snowfall of 5-15 millimeters until the snow process end on Dec. 4.

The heavy snow will still linger in Northeast China and the northeast part of Inner Mongolia. Meteorological department warned airlines and airports in these regions of accumulated snow, icing, low visibility and other hazardous weather conditions for a safety operation.
