At noon of 23 October 2018, the latest helicopter to join the Rega fleet, the Airbus Helicopters H145, took off on its very first mission. The crew from the Rega base in Berne used the rescue helicopter to transport an emergency patient from the Centre hospitalier Bienne to the Inselspital University Hospital in Berne.
Rega’s new H145 rescue helicopter commenced operations at the Berne-Belp base. Its first mission was not long in coming. Shortly before midday, a seriously ill patient needed to be transferred from the Centre hospitalier Bienne to the Inselspital University Hospital in Berne in order to undergo an emergency operation.

H145 – a rescue helicopter of the latest generation
The H145 is considerably more powerful than its predecessor, the EC 145, thus further increasing safety during missions. The twin-engine H145 features cutting-edge avionics and navigation technology, is equipped with a four-axis autopilot, and can also perform satellite-based approach flights with extreme precision. Its spacious cabin means that the new Rega helicopter is predestined for special intensive care patient transports, such as with a heart-lung machine or a mobile incubator for premature babies.
Outlook: the new Rega helicopter on the Bundesplatz in Berne
The Rega base in Berne-Belp is the first to be equipped with one of a total of seven Airbus Helicopters H145 rescue helicopters. To mark the 50,000th patron in the City of Berne, Rega is presenting the people of Berne with “their” new rescue helicopter, which will land on the Bundesplatz on Friday, 2 November at 11.30 am. Besides the landing, there are plenty of other things to experience. As a particular highlight, members of the public will have the opportunity to inspect the Berne base’s new H145 helicopter at close quarters for the first time and find out from the Berne crew what makes this helicopter so special.
