In the beginning there was a telephone by Alexander Bell, which was revolutionary, then phone became common and by the end of last century radiophones emerged, as well as ISDN system, advanced satellite units and a variety of mobile phones, followed by IP-phones and high speed internet. Throughout its whole history mankind is fighting to stay connected. In aviation, especially its business jets segment, staying connected all time is quite often a way to success in business. There are a lot of various solutions in the modern market for any budget. Define the task, install the hardware and the world will become closer, even when you’re flying at FL470.

But how can you choose among many offers? Today we’ll try to answer this question together with the head of Russian office of Satcom Direct (Satcom Direct’s Russian office?), Evgeniy Pashkov.

But let’s start with the brand history. Most of the aircraft owners appreciate Satcom Direct for reliable connection, high level technical support and innovative solutions. In particular, company has developed its own hardware – SDR, which optimizes communication on board, allowing to use laptops, tablets and smartphones almost as on the ground.

“SDR provides more opportunities for our customers: calls, text messages, emails, web browsing and data streaming – all that goes to a new level using the combination of the best technologies and services.

How does that work? SDR automatically chooses the best of available connections and constantly updates it. Our router has technologies for data compression and cashing in order to provide maximum bandwidth for data transmission. Internet is internet, but no one would refuse the opportunity to talk over personal smartphone at the altitude of 11km. And Satcom Direct is a leader in that with its industry first solution – Global VT.

“Global VT allows you to use your phone during the whole flight from takeoff till landing. You can use your smartphone’s contact list for calls and messaging. SDR provides several wifi networks simultaneously with individual settings for each of them. Also, with SDR user can monitor the connections status and track the traffic usage for each of them.

What about the data protection? Satcom Direct has a lot of experience working with military and VVIP customers. Company has its own data center, TerraCom Direct, which provides the maximum level of security. How? TerraCom Direct automatically tracks the information generated from the aircraft and allows to connect safely to your corporate network.
