The corporations that participate in the KLM Corporate BioFuel Programme pay a surcharge that covers the price difference between sustainable biofuel and traditional kerosene. This investment is fully utilised by KLM to purchase sustainable biofuel, which is added to the fuel pumped into KLMaircraft at Amsterdam Airport Schiphol and elsewhere. Consequently, the participating corporations reduce CO2 emissions resulting from their business travel, but also contribute to the further development of the biofuel market.
The sustainable biofuel for the KLM Corporate BioFuel Programme is supplied by SkyNRG, a company founded by KLM in 2010. To make the right decisions now and in the future, SkyNRG is structurally advised by an independent Sustainability Board, consisting of the Dutch wing of the World Wide Fund for Nature (WWF-NL), Solidaridad and the Energy Academy Europe.
The KLM Corporate BioFuel Programme was established in 2012. In addition to ABN AMRO, the programme’s partners are Accenture, CBRE, FMO, FrieslandCampina, City of Amsterdam, Heineken, Loyens & Loeff, Nike, PGGM, Perfetti Van Melle and the Schiphol Group. KLM aims to reduce CO2 emissions by 20% in 2020 (compared to 2011), by way of fleet renewal, utilisation of sustainable biofuel, and improved flight efficiency. KLM is already an industry leader in fuel efficiency and the use of sustainable biofuel.
