A company carrying out pipe diversion works has been fined S$9,000 for affecting Changi Airport Terminal 3's water supply earlier this year, said PUB on Tuesday (Sep. 15).

Sam Lain Equipment Services was also given a composition fine of S$5,000 for engaging five unlicensed workers to carry out water service works. PUB issued a warning letter to each worker as well, the national water agency said in a news release.

On the afternoon of Jan. 29, 2015, some food and beverage tenants at Terminal 3 reportedly saw brownish water coming from the taps. The water supply at T3 was temporarily shut down as workers cleaned the affected water tank and flushed the internal service pipes. Water supply at T3 only returned to normal the next day.

Investigations revealed that Sam Lain Equipment Services had failed to adhere to PUB's procedures when it was contracted to carry out pipe diversion works at Changi Airport and this affected the water supply at Terminal 3, said PUB.
