Synhelion has entered into a MoU with the Government of Morocco to advance the development of a large‑scale commercial synthetic fuel plant in the country’s southern Tan‑Tan province. The project envisions an annual production capacity of 100,000 tons of renewable fuel, positioning Morocco as a strategic hub for solar‑based fuel innovation. To support this initiative, Synhelion has already secured a land reservation for the future site and established a dedicated subsidiary, Synhelion Morocco — tangible, operational steps that mark the transition from concept to implementation.

The MoU establishes the groundwork for developing a renewable synthetic fuel plant designed to deliver an annual output of 100,000 tons. Located in Morocco’s Tan‑Tan province, within the Guelmim‑Oued Noun region, the project benefits from a site already reserved for construction — a decisive move that accelerates its path toward realization.

Tan‑Tan offers a strategically advantageous environment, combining strong renewable energy resources with ideal conditions for building a fully integrated renewable fuel value chain. These factors position the region as a high‑potential anchor for large‑scale sustainable fuel production.

Karim Zidane, Minister of Investment, Convergence and Evaluation of Public Policies commented: “This Memorandum of Understanding reflects Morocco’s ambition to attract high-impact investments that combine innovation, sustainability and industrial development. By building on the strong renewable energy potential of the Guelmim-Oued Noun region, this project has the potential to contribute to the emergence of new value chains, create local economic opportunities and strengthen the Kingdom’s position as a competitive platform for green industry. We welcome Synhelion’s commitment to Morocco and look forward to supporting the project as it moves toward its next stages of development.”

Gianluca Ambrosetti, Co-CEO and Co-Founder of Synhelion stated: “Morocco’s exceptional renewable energy resources and its clear industrial strategy make it an ideal location for scaling our synthetic fuel technology. With the Memorandum of Understanding signed, the land reservation secured, and our branch in place, we are moving from evaluation to execution and toward our first commercial-scale plant in the region. We look forward to deepening our collaboration with the Government of Morocco.”

Turning renewable energy into drop-in fuels

Synhelion produces renewable synthetic jet fuel, diesel, and gasoline for the transportation sector. The fuels can directly replace fossil fuels and require no changes to existing engines and fuel infrastructure. Produced from renewable energy and biogenic waste, they reduce net CO2 emissions by up to 100% compared with fossil fuels and support a more resilient and diversified energy supply.

Expanding Synhelion’s global production

Synhelion is evaluating regions worldwide to establish renewable synthetic fuel plants at commercial scale. The project in Morocco marks an important step in advancing the scale-up of its technology and supports the path toward cost-competitive renewable fuels. Its newly established Moroccan branch, Synhelion Morocco, has gained Casablanca Finance City status and positions the company within Morocco’s leading international business and investment hub.
