Bankruptcy of Transaero Airlines is only one of the possible scenarios; VEB is negotiating establishment of a new carrier on the basis of the airline, VEB Chairman Vladimir Dmitriev told Russia 24 TV channel, TASS reports.

“We are considering the possibility of a soft landing in this difficult situation in the form of controlled bankruptcy. But now I would like to admit that bankruptcy is only one of the possible scenarios. We are also considering other options,” Dmitriev said. According to him, establishment of a new carrier is being discussed.

“We are negotiating with our partners and friends from VTB on a daily basis in order to consider the scenario of establishing a new carrier on the basis of the existing fleet; this carrier should be able to fulfill a part of Transaero’s obligations in case of providing it with the state support,” Kostin said.

He noted that this option must be considered and it might well be implemented.

The new carrier should keep all of Transaero’s privileges, including duty-free import of aircraft and simplified access to domestic and international flights, Dmitriev added.

“Earlier Transaero was the only airline able to import aircraft without any duties and fees, and they had a simplified access to domestic and international flights. If we are going to establish a new carrier, we’ll need state support in this area,” Dmitriev said.
