Abu Dhabi Airport starts the de-propping process for roof structure of the Midfield Terminal Building (MTB), with aim for the structure to be self-standing by February 2016.

The curved roof of the Midfield Terminal Building will appear to be floating on 18 steel arches once the structure has been de-propped.

The process is the first of nine de-props will take a team of 45 specialists with 60 hydraulic jacks to remove the 30 supports that currently hold the roof.

“It is truly amazing to witness this great progress. We are extremely proud to maintain our track record of achieving key construction milestones safely in spite of the project’s architectural complexity. Currently the whole project is 55% complete and it is expected to be 70% complete by the end of 2015,” said H. E. Ali Majed Al Mansoori, Chairman of Abu Dhabi Airports.

The roof structure was first constructed in October 2013, with the complex assembly of the roof completed in early 2014.

The MTB will feature state of the art design and technology, and boost Abu Dhabi International Airport’s capacity to over 45 million passengers a year.
