The Latvian airline airBaltic will introduce a new route between Geneva and Riga for the next summer season. The flight will start on May 4, 2017, and will be operated with a Boeing 737-300 (capacity of 144 seats).
Direct flights between the two cities are scheduled on Monday, Thursday and Friday. The airline will leave Riga at 07:55 to arrive in Geneva at 09:45. On the way back, the plane will take off at 10:40 in order to land in Latvia at 14:20 local time (one hour difference).
With approximately 650,000 inhabitants, Riga is the capital of Latvia and also the largest city in the Baltic countries. It is nevertheless a human-size town, rich in monuments and easy to visit by foot. Among major touristic attractions, one can mention the castle, built as a fortress in the 13th century, the cathedral and various orthodox and protestant churches.
This new air service will therefore develop tourism, by offering an easy access to Riga for short city-breaks, but also to join quickly the other Baltic countries. Indeed, Latvia is ideally located between Estonia and Lithuania and surface distances are very short. Visiting the three Baltic capitals in one week is a classical tour than cannot be missed.
Together with the launch of Geneva, airBaltic will introduce seven other new routes, five from Riga (Aberdeen, Stavanger, Gothenburg, Tampere, Catania) and two from Vilnius (Paris, Munich). Altogether, airBaltic serves over 60 destinations, with convenient connections via Riga to its network in Europe, Scandinavia, CIS and the Middle East. The fleet consists of 24 aircraft – 12 Boeing 737 and 12 Bombardier Q400 Next Gen.
