Riga Airport announced first stage of construction procurement – qualification of applicants for construction of Airport's new terminal. The purpose of the procurement is to choose a builder who will construct new building of the passenger terminal of Riga Airport, baggage handling and sorting complex, new access roads, a multi-storey car park and the connection of the Airport with the Rail Baltica station.
Local and foreign construction companies or their associations are invited to participate in tender for the right to build the new terminal of Riga Airport. Applicants must have a minimum annual net turnover of at least 60 million euros during three previous years and must be able to demonstrate stable financial and economic performance indicators. Requirements are also set for construction experience: applicants will have to prove that they, as the main executors of contract, have been able to build a certain amount of construction in similar type of facilities in recent years. Builder's experience in construction or reconstruction of roads, streets, squares and bridges, experience in working with the building information model and the possibility of attracting a team of qualified and experienced specialists who take responsibility for management of all construction work processes will also be evaluated.

Planned construction scope of new terminal is 45 thousand square metres, construction costs are estimated at 167 million euros. This project will be financed by attracting funds from the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development, other international financial institutions and credit institutions.
FIDIC Yellow Book contract is expected to be signed with builder, and the project is planned to achieve the BREEAM Excellent level of the sustainability certificate. Construction of new terminal is scheduled to begin in the third quarter of 2024 and be completed by the end of 2028. It is planned that construction will take place in several stages and that Riga Airport will be able to work at full capacity during the entire construction period.
On 24 November, Airport will hold an Open Day for interested applicants. Designers of new terminal “One Works, Sintagma, Vektors T” from Italy, as well as the project management group of Riga Airport will participate in it. Participants of this event will have the opportunity to familiarize themselves more closely with the developed construction design and its solutions, as well as receive answers to questions before submitting proposals.
