Beijing Capital International Airport (PEK) said it is expected to serve 1.76 million people during the upcoming week-long National Day Holiday, or "Golden Week", from Oct. 1-7.

The airport projects that it will handle on average 251,000 people per day during the week-long holiday.

During the "Golden Week", PEK is expected to serve up to 11,400 takeoffs and landings, an average of 1,630 movements per day.

A surging number of passengers will travel out of the airport on Sep. 30, while the returning peak of passengers will start from Oct. 5 and last until Oct. 9, according to the airport.

The airport said it is expected to handle up to 276,000 passengers on Sep. 30 - the busiest day of the period. Aircraft movements are expected to hit a record high of 1,706 on Oct. 9.

Beijing airport has initiated emergency response measures to ensure the safe, smooth and orderly transport of passengers. All the airport's security check gates will be put into service during the rush hour of the holiday season to shorten waiting periods.

Notably, the airport will tighten security checks during the Golden Week. The airport warns that lithium batteries and power banks are not allowed to be carried in checked luggage, and matches and cigarette lighter are forbidden to be carried on flights or in checked luggage.

Passengers are advised to arrive in the airport earlier than usual to avoid the possible traffic jam and leave enough time for check-in and security checks.
