Have you got what it takes to man an airport X-ray machine? Test your abilities here.

Do you think you've got what it takes to work in airport security, starring at X-rays of passenger's luggage in an effort to spot any items that shouldn't be taken onto planes?

Simulscan, an Italian firm that trains officers in X-ray screening, has released this images of scanned bags - each one containing something that shouldn't be there.

Roberto Sergnese, who founded Simulscan, told Wired: “You don’t have to recognize everything inside a bag.” He recommends looking for anomalies - things that don’t look quite right.

See if you can spot the contraband items in these eight images.

1. An easy one for starters

There's a knife here somewhere, can you possibly... oh yes, there it is, looking extremely conspicuous

2. Slightly trickier

There's a folding knife lurking in the corner of the picture. Did you spot it at first glance?

3. Does anything stand out?

Amid this jumble of items, you might just be able to make out the handle of a gun.

4. This shouldn't pose too many difficulties

The only knives allowed through US airport security are "plastic or round-bladed butter knives".

5. What shouldn't be here?

It's not just weapons security staff are on the lookout for. Aerosoles and containers of liquid larger than 3.4 ounces are also forbidden. This is a can of hairspray.

6. Erm...

No prizes for spotting this sinister silhouette. It belongs to a toy gun, and "realistic replicas of firearms" are banned from carry on luggage.

7. Can you see it?

Would you have been able to spot this jar of body cream? That wouldn't have been allowed on a flight.

8. And finally...

Tools are forbidden (and, we think, slightly easier to spot that contraband cosmetics).
