Shanghai Pudong International Airport (PVG) handled record 5.7 million inbound and outbound passengers in the summer peak season in July and August, representing a growth of 13.03% year on year, according to statistics from Shanghai Airport Frontier Inspection Station.
The Shanghai Port welcomed up to 7 million inbound and outbound passengers in the past two months, up 12.74% year on year, and over 80% of them travelled through PVG.
The daily inbound and outbound passengers travelling through the airport averaged 95,000. In July and August, the number of inbound and outbound passengers increased 13.03% year on year, or 66,000.
The inbound and outbound passengers surged at the airport due to the increased tourists, students and the government's new exit and entry policy, according to the analysis of the Shanghai Airport Frontier Inspection Station.
Meanwhile, the Chinese government has lifted an entry permit requirement for people from Taiwan travelling to the mainland, making it much easier for Taiwan people to travel to the mainland. Since the new policy took effect on July 1, PVG welcomed 262,000 travellers from Taiwan in the summer travel season, up 7.8% over the same period a year earlier.
