Shell Aviation has announced today that it has become the sole supplier of aviation fuels at Goodwood Aerodrome. The agreement, which covers the supply of Avgas and Jet fuel, is the latest in a series of new airport entries in Europe. The new collaboration will be marked at one of the world’s most popular vintage aviation and motorsports celebrations – The Goodwood Revival, taking place 11-13 September.

In addition to fuel supply, Shell Aviation has undertaken engineering works at the site, including the installation of hose reels and tank safety gauging to enhance the safety standards of the site. These works have been wrapped in a heritage branded fuel station to remain true to the period feel of Goodwood Aerodrome and Goodwood Revival. The vintage refuelling station is also a nod to the more than100 years of heritage Shell has in aviation.

Melanie Lane, General Manager of Shell Aviation Europe, commented, “We are pleased to be the sole fuel supply partner for Goodwood Aerodrome, launching at the renowned motorsports and aviation heritage festival, the Goodwood Revival. This contract builds on Shell Aviation’s growth in the European aviation fuels market, supporting the company’s long-term success in the region.”

Shell Aviation will also provide the aerodrome with fuel bowsers and temporary jet fuel storage facilities to improve distribution to the many aircraft that visit or call Goodwood their home, including those from the UK’s only Spitfire flying school. Goodwood Aerodrome has a rich history, built by the Royal Air Force on land donated by the Goodwood Estate as RAF (Royal Air Force) Westhampnett, a relief base for nearby RAF Tangmere, which played a vital role during the Battle of Britain and throughout World War 2. Post-war, the airfield was restored to the Estate and it continues to be a popular destination for aviation enthusiasts. Goodwood Aerodrome is a focal point of Goodwood Revival, when some of the most celebrated historic aircraft in the world gather for the Freddie March Spirit of Aviation Display.

During this year’s Goodwood Revival, the aviation elements will be centred on commemorating the 75th anniversary of the Battle of Britain, with over 35 aircraft of the period, including Supermarine Spitfires, Hawker Hurricanes and the world’s only flying Bristol Blenheim expected to be on display in the air and on the ground.

The vintage show is the perfect occasion for Shell to show off its long heritage at Goodwood both in aviation and in motorsport, demonstrating a continued focus on providing technical and operational excellence.

Lord March, Goodwood Revival founder, commented, “We are excited to have Shell Aviation as our supplier at Goodwood Aerodrome. As well as offering fuel quality, Shell Aviation is a perfect fit here, blending today’s technology with a touch of history. We are very pleased with the vintage refuelling station which our customers already love.”
