Traffic from Munich Airport to Asia surpasses pre-pandemic level

The high demand for air travel is reflected in the increasing number of aircraft movements at Munich Airport. For example, the airport will see record numbers of services to Asia in the 2024 summer flight schedule starting on March 31: A total of nine airlines are currently planning 107 weekly flights to 14 destinations in ten countries in East and South Asia. Before the pandemic, in the 2019 summer schedule, there were 101 flights operated by five airlines to ten destinations in seven countries.

The destinations now covered by flights from Munich to East and South Asia are Tokyo, Osaka, Beijing, Shanghai, Bangalore, Mumbai, Delhi, Seoul, Tashkent, Dushanbe, Male, Taipei, Bangkok and Singapore. These destinations in East and South Asia are currently served by Lufthansa, Air China, All Nippon Airways, BeOnd, EVA Airways, Singapore Airlines, Somon Air, Thai Airways and Uzbekistan Airways.

From vibrant megacities with bank towers and skyscrapers to magnificent temples and idyllic beaches – Asia has countless tourist attractions. Asian countries are also among the most important players in the global economy and are therefore a frequent destination for business travelers. Numerous Bavarian companies also maintain business relations with companies and markets in the region and take advantage of the flights from Munich. 

In order to meet the growing demand for air travel, Lufthansa will periodically deploy the world’s largest passenger aircraft, the Airbus A380, on the route to Delhi from April 1, 2024. The service to Beijing will be increased from three weekly flights to a daily connection from April, while Osaka in Japan will be served five times a week from April and then daily from May. Japanese airline All Nippon Airways is increasing its service in Munich from four to seven weekly flights from July 2.
