The Swiss helicopter company and flight school Swiss Helicopter is consistently implementing its sustainability strategy and will offer all passenger flights exclusively climate-neutral from 2023.  In view of the global climate challenges, the aviation industry in particular has a duty to reduce or offset its emissions. Swiss Helicopter  accepts this responsibility and has therefore been pursuing a consistent sustainability strategy for some time. With its latest decision, Swiss Helicopter  is now even becoming a pioneer in the Swiss aviation industry: as of 2023, it will be the first Swiss airline to implement all passenger flights in a CO2-neutral manner.

Rolf Heuberger, CEO of Swiss Helicopter commented: " We are very pleased to be able to make a valuable contribution to climate protection together with our customers. However, we are convinced that customers will also accept the slightly higher costs for passenger flights." In addition to private flights, Swiss Helicopter AG will also be offering a climate-neutral option for material transport flights as well as flights in the flight school and flight training sectors from January.

SAFs hope for the future
Swiss Helicopter AG achieves the climate neutrality of its flights on the one hand by reducing the use of fossil fuel. This is increasingly being replaced by so-called Sustainable Aviation Fuels (SAFs), which are produced from biological raw materials or synthetically and are CO2-neutral. However, due to the high demand from aviation companies, the currently still low production volume and the associated high prices, SAFs are currently only available in limited quantities. Moreover, the current legal situation allows a maximum blend of 50% SAFs. Therefore, in order to be able to fly in a climate-neutral manner, Swiss Helicopter AG is dependent on being able to compensate for the remaining emissions. This is achieved through a collaboration with the German partner company Carbonfuture, which is active in the field of recovering CO2 from the air (carbon removal) using plant carbon.
