Universal Avionics Authorized Dealer, Heli-One, recently completed installation of Universal Avionics UNS-1Fw Multi-Missions Management System (MMMS) and MFD-640 Multi-Function Display on a CHC Helicopter Airbus Super Puma aircraft. With a Supplemental Type Certificate (STC) in hand, rotorcraft operators have a mission-ready flight deck solution.

The UNS-1Fw MMMS provides the operator with centralized control of the aircraft navigation sensors, lateral and vertical flight guidance and steering, fuel management, database management and flight planning. It incorporates the advanced technology, system design, features and capabilities included in the Universal Avionics SBAS-enabled Flight Management System (FMS) with special interfaces and the ability to fly six distinct patterns. This installation includes a single UNS-1Fw MMMS with Localizer Performance with Vertical Guidance (LPV) Monitor in order to meet the integrity goals for precision approach types.

Universal Avionics implemented software changes in the MFD-640 Multi-Function Display in support for interface with the RDR-1400C radar and NC104B Nav converter. The MFD-640 in this application supports the MMMS flight plan/moving map displays, radar, traffic and Helicopter Terrain Warning System (HTAWS).

“This MMMS upgrade replaces existing legacy Area Navigation (RNAV) systems with a Multi-Mission FMS capability including search patterns,” said Grady Dees, Universal Avionics Director of Technical Sales. “The new MMMS provides Precision-RNAV (P-RNAV) compliance, Automatic Dependent Surveillance-Broadcast (ADS-B) Out position data and Required Navigation Performance (RNP) capabilities including curved path legs,” he added. “The MFD-640 replaces an existing radar display while interfacing to the existing search radar.”

“Universal Avionics products are designed to seamlessly retrofit onto legacy aircraft, providing customers with a cost effective, reliable solution to upgrade their fleet. The team at Universal Avionics has been very responsive to our needs as the integrator, and as a Universal Avionics Authorized Dealer, we are treated as true partners and are very satisfied with the support we’ve received,” said Anthony DiNota, President, Heli-One.

Throughout 2015, Universal Avionics is offering an upgrade incentive program for non-Universal Avionics operators to trade in their legacy FMS or GPS system for a new, SBAS-capable Universal Avionics FMS. Please contact a Universal Avionics Regional Sales Manager at (520) 295-2300 · (800) 321-5253 or [email protected] to learn more. Additional upgrade incentive program information is also available at www.uasc.com/trade-in/fms.
