While the helicopter accident rate continues to decline, tragic accidents this past year continue to push safety to the forefront for the global helicopter industry. Helitech International will host some of the industry’s leading figures to share their knowledge and assess the opportunity to further improve safety across all of the industry’s sectors – from aerobatic display to managing the threats posed by UAVs.
Helitech International’s free to attend Safety Workshop, hosted by the European Helicopter Safety Team (EHEST) and the International Helicopter Safety Team (IHST) will take place on Thursday 13 October. The programme sets to tackle the current safety issues head on and will feature presentations from HeliOffshore, Netherlands Aerospace Centre, Helicopter Association International (HAI) and EHEST.
Ensuring aerobatic display safety
Aerobatic displays are closely governed by safety rules and the Flying Bulls operate a range of aircrafts with flight operations that are unique and demanding. Rainer Wilke, Helicopter Aerobatic Pilot at the Flying Bulls will deliver the keynote speech of the Safety Workshop to focus on how these unique air displays are carried out in the safest way possible and give insight into the steps to take to ensure all operations meet safety regulations and deliver a safe environment for all those involved.
The evolving threats to safety
The (continuing) growth of wind energy production demands attention to the safety aspects for the industry. Richard Bakker, R&D Engineer at Netherlands Aerospace Centre, will lead a session to touch upon the evolving presence of wind farms, and more specifically their risk for helicopters.
The agenda will also see Francois Lassale, Operations Director at HeliOffshore, take to the stage to discuss how the offshore sector of the helicopter industry is improving safety by sharing data, experiences and learning, and by aligning behind a global safety strategy.

Showcasing the latest in safety advancements
Alongside the seminar and workshop programme, some of the most advanced safety platforms, systems, equipment components and services will be displayed by international exhibitors such as Airtelis, HR Smith Group of Companies, FlightSafety International UK Ltd.
Among the latest safety procedures to be displayed at the show, Tyromont Alpin Technik will be showcasing its latest helicopter rescue bags for various rescue operations, while Heli Hook, a leading producer of premium products for external load transportation will be unveiling its newest cargo hook.
