Engine maintenance shop opened in cooperation with SR Technics

This June, ENGINEERING Holding opened an engine MRO shop in its subsidiary S 7 ENGINEERING’s Moscow base. CFM56 engines maintained in the new shop are among the most widely-used power plants in aviation today, and are utilized on some the world’s most popular aircraft like Airbus A320 family and Boeing 737 NG. S 7 ENGINEERING’s EASA Part 145 certificate was extended for maintenance of CFM56-5B and CFM56-7B engines earlier this May.  

SR Technics Switzerland Ltd. (“SR Technics”), a world leading MRO service provider, is the strategic partner for the project. The company provided S 7 ENGINEERING’s team with a full training course on its premises in Zurich, and supports in lean practices and light maintenance. Mentored by Swiss experts, Russian engineers perfected their theoretical knowledge and practical skills in order to ensure that the maintenance is compliant with SR Technics’ high quality standards. To support the best possible application of the team’s knowledge and proficiency, the shop floor is organized in accordance with modern practices of workflow optimization and outfitted with cutting-edge tooling certified by CFM International, the engine’s OEM.  

The engine shop team has already successfully completed its first project, having replaced a gearbox on an Airbus A320 of a Russian carrier. The task was performed without dismantling the power plant from the wing.  

Apart from on-wing maintenance, the shop’s team is capable of removing engines from wing and carrying out in-shop maintenance when a more detailed inspection is needed.
S 7 ENGINEERING’s engineers are certified to perform in-depth analysis, preserve engines for prolonged storage, or prepare engines for return to lessors. Power plants in need of a full overhaul are sent to SR Technics’ base in Zurich.  

ENGINEERING Holding management expects its clients from Russia and abroad to benefit from better economic efficiency and reduced TAT of the engine shop. Airbus A320 and Boeing 737NG operators will no longer have to bear additional expenses, both time- and money-wise, related to customs clearance of the engines, their transportation to a maintenance shop outside Russia, and renting of spare engines.  

Airlines in Russia operate approximately 300 Airbus A320 family and Boeing 737NG twin-engine aircraft. ENGINEERING Holding’s policy will continue to focus on expanding its portfolio of MRO services.
