General Atomics AeroTec Systems successfully conducted comprehensive overhaul services on a Do228 of Bangladesh Navy and transferred the aircraft back to Chattogram, Bangladesh end of January 2026. It was the first part of an MRO contract signed by both parties in 2025. The overhaul of a second Do228 will follow later this year.

Base maintenance - the next step in a successful partnership

The Bangladesh Navy is operating a Do228 fleet since more than ten years for maritime patrol and special mission operations with a current fleet size of four aircraft. Under the current maintenance contract, two aircraft are undergoing base maintenance services at GA-ATS's facility in Oberpfaffenhofen, Germany. The first aircraft has now been successfully overhauled and returned to Bangladesh, where it has been handed over to the customer. The comprehensive maintenance scope included a 72-month full-cycle scheduled inspection and a 12-year structure significant item inspection, ensuring continued operational readiness and safety of the aircraft for years to come.

Training and knowledge transfer

During the maintenance operations, a dedicated team from Bangladesh Navy observed the overhaul process on-site the GA-ATS facility. The personnel visited the workshops and received technical training directly from the Do228 OEM specialists, gaining valuable first-hand experience with the aircraft systems and maintenance procedures. This knowledge transfer was highly appreciated by the Bangladesh Navy and has strengthened the operational capabilities of their aviation personnel.

MRO for additional Do228 scheduled

The MRO project continues with another Do228 from Bangladesh Navy expected in Oberpfaffenhofen later this year to undergo the same maintenance procedures. This project significantly modernizes the Bangladesh Navy's Do228 fleet, expands its capabilities and ensures its operational readiness for the future.
