Newest fighters have conducted exercises over the Sea of ··Okhotsk off the coast of Kamchatka. They drilled support of antisubmarine warfare (ASW) aircraft of the Russian Pacific Fleet, the Eastern Military District press service reported on Friday.

"The crews of the Sukhoi Su-35S fighters drilled escort of the Ilyushin IL-38 ASW planes of the Pacific Fleet’s naval aviation base, performing the task of search for simulated enemy’s surface ships and submarines in the Sea of ··Okhotsk and in the Pacific in area of the Kuril Islands," the statement says.

The planned exercises were aimed at improving the skills of the aircraft crews in performing combat training missions.

The first newest Su-35S fighters arrived to the Eastern Military District in late 2014. The aircraft are currently in service with a squadron of an air regiment stationed in the Khabarovsk Territory.

Su-35S - is a highly upgraded manoeuvrable multifunctional fighter of the 4 ++ generation. It is based on the fifth-generation technology ensuring its superiority over fighter aircraft of the same class.

The Su-35S incorporates a reinforced airframe, improved avionics and radar, thrust-vectoring engines, and a reduced frontal radar signature.
