AEE Aircraft Electronic Engineering GmbH and Horizon Aircraft have joined forces to integrate advanced avionics capabilities into the Cavorite X7 hybrid-electric eVTOL programme. Through the partnership, AEE's MIAU 1000 avionics solution will become a key component of the aircraft's powered lift control system, enhancing the full-scale demonstrator as Horizon progresses toward the next phase of flight testing and technology maturation.

MIAU 1000: Ruggedized Processing Power for the Future of Aviation

The MIAU 1000 is a compact, lightweight, and highly durable hardware platform engineered for demanding aerospace applications. Its flexible architecture enables deployment as a gateway computer, motor or actuator interface unit, data concentrator, or even a flight control computer.

For eVTOL developers, the platform delivers several key technical benefits:

  • Optimized SWaP Footprint: Designed specifically for applications with stringent Size, Weight, and Power (SWaP) requirements, the MIAU 1000 maximizes performance while minimizing system impact.

  • Enhanced High-Voltage Integration: Featuring individually isolated interfaces, the platform provides a secure bridge between high-voltage electrical systems and safety-critical avionics, an essential capability for electric and hybrid-electric aircraft architectures.

  • Certification-Ready Dependability: Engineered to comply with multiple DO-160G categories and developed in accordance with AMC20-152A and DO-254 processes up to DAL A, the system delivers the reliability and robustness required for the most demanding aviation environments.

Horizon Aircraft: Advancing the Future of Hybrid-Electric Air Mobility

Based in Lindsay, Ontario, Horizon Aircraft is developing the Cavorite X7, a hybrid-electric VTOL aircraft designed to combine the vertical takeoff and landing capabilities of a helicopter with the efficiency of a conventional fixed-wing aircraft. The result is an aircraft capable of flying nearly twice as fast as a helicopter while operating in weather conditions that would typically limit most rotorcraft. The Cavorite X7 is intended to provide a faster, safer, and more efficient solution for time-critical missions traditionally performed by helicopters, including emergency medical services, defence operations, and search-and-rescue missions.

The integration of AEE's MIAU 1000 platform will support Horizon Aircraft in safely and efficiently managing the complex, safety-critical control functions of the electrically powered lift fans housed within the wings, alongside the aircraft's conventional propulsion systems.
