As new Modernization of Special Airworthiness Certification rules take effect this week, Tecnam Aircraft reaffirms its leadership in the light sport and general aviation sectors,  announcing its full readiness to lead this transformative new era of flight. This groundbreaking regulation ushers in a new era for pilots, aircraft manufacturers, and aviation businesses, expanding the possibilities of flight for all. As one of the world’s most trusted General Aviation manufacturers, Tecnam is ready with its most successful and reliable aircraft platforms to comply fully with the MOSAIC framework. Company’s approach focuses on plug-and-play solutions that expand access to aviation while maintaining Tecnam’s signature safety, innovation, and efficiency.

Giovanni Pascale Langer, Managing Director of Tecnam S.p.A. commented: “At Tecnam, we believe every pilot’s journey is unique. Your Ambition. Our Wings. is more than a slogan—it’s our promise to support aviators wherever their goals may take them. When we read the rule for the first time, we thought it was shaped around our mission—making flying easier, safer, and accessible for everyone. Now, with MOSAIC, that mission is stronger than ever. MOSAIC opens a new era for aviation and its community. Tecnam is, once again, ready to lead the way forward.”

The FAA’s MOSAIC rule fundamentally redefines the concept of Light Sport Aircraft, replacing long-standing limitations with performance-based criteria that foster innovation, accessibility, and growth across the aviation community.

Under MOSAIC, the possibilities expand dramatically for airplanes, pilots, and mechanics:

  • No Weight Limit: LSA are no longer restricted to 1,320 lbs.

  • Up to 4 Seats: Sport Pilots may fly 4-seat airplanes with one passenger.

  • Higher Stall Speeds: Up to 59 knots CAS (clean) for Sport Pilot privileges; 61 knots CAS (full flaps) for LSA eligibility.

  • Advanced Modern Features: Retractable gear, constant-speed propellers, and twin-engine configurations are now allowed.

  • Night Flight: Permitted with proper training and medical certification.

Empowering pilots, flight schools, and businesses

Pilots & students:

  • Enjoy greater payload and range in 4-seat aircraft.

  • Fly safer and further—with options for twin-engine LSAs starting in Q3 2026.

  • Private Pilots will soon be able to carry up to 3 passengers under LSA privileges.

Flight schools:

  • Continue using existing fleets for Sport Pilot training.

  • Offer faster, more affordable pathways to the skies.

  • Attract more students by lowering entry barriers.

Aviation businesses:

  • Leverage LSA platforms for aerial surveying, photography, and specialized missions.

  • Operate at lower costs thanks to simplified certification processes.

  • Unlock new revenue streams through flexible LSA applications.
