Specialists of the Zhukovsky Central AeroHydrodynamic Institute (TsAGI, a member of the National Research Center “Zhukovsky Institute”), conducted regular tests of the new domestic short/medium-range MC-21-300 aircraft. Irkut Corporation develops and manufactures the aircraft.
In the current round of tests, scientists studied the aerodynamic characteristics of the aircraft with PD-14 engines. The work was carried out in TsAGI’s transonic wind tunnel, with takeoff and landing mode simulation.
“The tests allowed us to enrich the aerodynamic data bank of the aircraft,” said Sergey Skomorokhov, Deputy Chief at TsAGI’s Aircraft and Rocket Aerodynamics Department. “We confirmed the high aerodynamic quality of the aircraft with the Russian PD-14 engines.”
From the inception of the MC-21, TsAGI has contributed in designing the new aircraft. The Institute’s scientists implemented large-scale complex studies and proposed a number of innovative solutions. The Russian aviation science center continues its work on the MC-21 project.
