Hawaiian Airlines has announced the appointment of Jay Schaefer to the position of vice president and treasurer. He is responsible for overseeing corporate finance, fleet financing, cash management, fuel and foreign exchange hedging and enterprise risk management for Hawaiian Airlines.
“Jay’s leadership of complex financial operations, along with his extensive airline experience, will allow us to continue managing our resources effectively and stay competitive in a new year of growth,” said Shannon Okinaka, Hawaiian Airlines executive vice president and chief financial officer.
Schaefer brings to Hawaiian more than 20 years of experience in financial planning and analysis and treasury operations. He most recently served in various financial planning and analysis and transportation finance roles for Amazon in Seattle. Previously, he spent 13 years with Alaska Air Group where he held manager, director and vice president roles. As vice president – finance and treasurer for the parent company of Alaska Airlines and Horizon Air industries, Schaefer led three operational teams, guiding capital allocation decisions, and driving return on invested capital for the two subsidiaries.
Schaefer earned a bachelor’s degree in economics and political science from the University of California in Santa Cruz, and a master’s degree in business administration from the University of Washington.
