Technical problems were delaying some Alaska Airlines flights, the company said.

Intermittent problems with the company's website and mobile app began late Wednesday night, airline spokesman Cole Cosgrove said.

He said some flights have been delayed as a result of the "technical issues" but didn't know how many.

The airline was trying to fix the problem but Cosgrove didn't know how long it would take.

Alaska Airlines travelers at the Portland, Oregon, airport said they were told their flights were delayed as a result of a system-wide technical glitch.

Computers were not working at the check-in gate, forcing employed to hand-check every passenger against the manifest and physically check off their names as they presented their boarding passes.

Flight 143 from Portland to Anchorage was delayed by at least two hours.

That was affecting Kevin Rentz of Pensacola, Florida, who was trying to reach his job in Alaska by noon Thursday.

He said one impact of the delay was that he would "probably not (be) getting any sleep."

"I want to get some rest before I go to work," he explained in an interview at the airport.

The extra wait prompted other travelers in Portland to find places to stretch out and doze off.

Meanwhile, the Seattle-based airline urged passengers to arrive at airports at least two hours early.
