ST Engineering has officially inaugurated its new Commercial Aerospace airframe maintenance, repair and overhaul facility at Changi Creek within Singapore Changi Airport. As the company's fourth airframe MRO site in Singapore, the facility significantly expands maintenance capacity in one of the world's premier aviation hubs while further strengthening ST Engineering's global airframe MRO network to meet rising demand for aircraft maintenance services. The opening ceremony was officiated by Singapore's Deputy Prime Minister and Minister for Energy, Trade and Industry (Trade), Gan Kim Yong.
Spanning 84,000 square metres, the new facility features four widebody aircraft bays. Once fully operational, it will increase ST Engineering's widebody airframe MRO capacity in Singapore by 40%, enabling the company to service approximately 100 additional widebody aircraft annually. The added capacity will provide airlines with greater access to maintenance slots and enhanced operational flexibility as global fleets continue to expand and aircraft remain in service for longer periods.

Smarter maintenance powered by digitalisation and AI
The new facility has been purpose-built for the next generation of airframe maintenance, combining advanced digital technologies, automation and artificial intelligence to deliver greater efficiency, operational visibility and maintenance performance. Integrated digital planning platforms, automated storage and retrieval systems, robotics and dedicated electronic documentation centres create a seamless, data-driven maintenance environment with end-to-end oversight across the entire maintenance lifecycle.
Advanced technologies will play a central role in day-to-day operations. Drones will conduct aircraft visual inspections with enhanced speed and accuracy, while Autonomous Mobile Robots will transport parts directly from storage locations to maintenance bays, streamlining workflows and reducing manual handling requirements. Real-time maintenance dashboards will provide immediate operational insights, enabling faster, more informed decision-making across maintenance activities.
Complemented by AI-powered aircraft inspection and defect detection capabilities, these innovations are designed to improve maintenance quality, accelerate aircraft turnaround times and further strengthen safety, reliability and customer service standards. The facility also incorporates sustainability-focused features, including on-site solar energy generation and rainwater harvesting systems.

Developing a future-ready workforce
At full operational capacity, the facility is expected to employ more than 500 people. To support increasingly digital and automated maintenance processes, ST Engineering will invest in comprehensive training and upskilling programmes focused on digital technologies and AI-enabled workflows. These initiatives will equip employees with the capabilities needed to work alongside advanced technologies while enhancing their technical expertise and supporting the future growth of the aerospace sector.
Kevin Chow, President of Commercial Aerospace at ST Engineering commented: "As airline fleets expand and aircraft stay in service longer, airlines need assured capacity, dependable reliability and consistently high quality. Our latest airframe facility aims to meet these customer expectations. This being Singapore’s latest aerospace facility designed for more technology-enabled MRO operations, it also reinforces the country’s strengths as a leading global aviation hub while supporting the development of advanced aerospace capabilities and skilled jobs here.”
Cindy Koh, Executive Vice President at Singapore Economic Development Board staited: “ST Engineering’s new facility is a significant expansion of its MRO capacity and capabilities. The facility will feature advanced robotics, digital and AI capabilities that enable connected, automated and sustainable maintenance operations. These capabilities would provide opportunities for Singaporeans to upskill, work with exciting technologies and pursue rewarding careers in aerospace. We look forward to partnering companies like ST Engineering to further Singapore’s standing as a premier global aerospace and aviation hub."
