Boeing has contracted Swiss-headquartered engineering group Liebherr to provide additional equipment for the high-lift system on the in-development 777X.

The latest package comprises actuators for the twinjet's flaps at the wings' trailing edges and rigs to test the flight-control equipment.

Earlier this year, the airframer selected Liebherr to provide hydraulic actuators for the slats on the aircraft's leading edges and, separately, the wing-tip folding mechanism.

But unlike the slat actuators – which it will design, manufacture and provide aftermarket support for – Liebherr will merely manufacture the rotary actuators for the flaps while their design will "reside with Boeing", the supplier says.

All equipment will be manufactured at the group's specialist facility for flight control equipment and landing gears in Lindenberg in southern Germany.

At that site, Liebherr will set up an "iron wing" test rig to assess the functionality of its equipment.

Two additional "mini" test rigs will be shipped to Boeing facilities in Seattle, Liebherr says.
